ST Electronics Awarded US$5.3 Million Contract
For Maldives Government Infocommunication Network

Singapore, 28 February 2005 — CET Technologies Pte Ltd (CET), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) has been awarded a US$5.3 million (approximately S$8.7 million) contract by the Ministry of Communication, Science & Technology of Maldives. CET is to provide an information network that will connect Maldives’ government and related agencies in Malé and 23 other islands. ST Electronics is the electronics arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering).
The award of this contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
To be completed in 2006, the new Maldives Government network will enable government agencies to share their information electronically. The network will also provide access to common applications and services, as well as allow the public to access government information and services through the Internet, and other services. Other organisations linked by the network across the 23 islands will include schools, hospitals, justice courts, police and offices. This initiative is in line with the Maldives Government’s pursuit of making the government agencies more efficient and transparent, while delivering public services to its people using state-of-the-art infocommunication technologies.

CET will design, integrate and implement the infocommunication network by installing a Metropolitan Area Network built over ethernet and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technologies; a National Satellite Network for connection of islands; the distribution networks for the connection of sites within the islands; and a common network infrastructure for the hosting of Government applications and secured access to Internet.

"This is a significant milestone for ST Electronics and CET as it marks the companies’ entry into the Maldives market. We are delighted to be involved in setting up such a large-scale network across the 23 Maldives islands for its Government and its people. We will deliver a leading edge infocommunication network for Maldives. The new structure will assist the Government to effectively deliver a comprehensive suite of services that will provide the citizens with more timely response to their needs."
